Research Internships Canada - Norway

Through Globalink, Norwegian and Canadian graduate students can apply for research grants of $15,000CAD to do internships with industry in the partner country.

In November 2016, SIU and Mitacs signed an agreement for a new program: The Norway-Canada Globalink Partnership Award (Globalink).

The goal of Globalink is to strengthen international research collaborations between leading industry and academic organizations in Norway and Canada.

The program is under development and will be launched on April 1, 2017. The program outline is as follows:

  • Students develop a research plan in partnership with their home academic supervisor, the industry partner and the host academic supervisor
  • As part of the project, students conduct research internships with industry partners in the partner country
  • Approved projects are awarded a research grant of $15,000CAD.
  • Minimum $10,000CAD will go to the student for the research internship, as well as $2,500CAD for travel
  • Students spend a minimum of 16 weeks and a maximum of 24 weeks on the research project, the time split between Norway and Canada
  • For-profit industry partners in Norway and Canada contribute financially to the project and host interns from the partner country
  • 10 projects can be awarded in each country each year.

• Students develop a research plan in partnership with their home academic supervisor, the industry partner and the host academic supervisor.

• As part of the project, students conduct research internships with industry partners in the partner country

• Students spend a minimum of 16 weeks and a maximum of 24 weeks on the research project, the time split between Norway and Canada. Eligibility:

• Graduate students (master and PhD level) from Norway and Canada

• Eligible higher education and research institutions in Norway and Canada

• For-profit industry partners in Norway and Canada to host interns from the partner country

• All academic fields and disciplines Funding:

• Government funding from Norway and Canada through SIU and Mitacs

• Approved projects are awarded a research grant of $15,000CAD, disbursed to the Canadian academic institution

• Minimum $10,000CAD will go to the student for the research internship, as well as $2,500CAD for travel

• Business partners contribute $7,500CAD to the project

How to apply:

• Please contact SIU or Mitacs if you have a prospective Globalink project

• Complete research proposals are submitted by the student and home academic supervisor to Mitacs

• Apply at least 16 weeks before departure

• Rolling deadline

• Projects are peer-reviewed

• Review time approximately 6-8 weeks

 

The program is under development and will be launched in the spring of 2017.
