Pedodontics covers the range of odontological disciplines that are applied and adapted to growing and developing individuals, defined as children and adolescents between 0 and 18 years.
In respect of this age group, the Department of Pedodontics is responsible for research, teaching and dissemination within the following areas: cariology, dental development disorders, traumatology, endodontics, oral surgery and oral medicine, periodontal diseases, fear and pain control and paediatrics.
Basic training in pedodontics is given in the 9th and 10th semesters. It covers theoretical, propaedeutic, outpatient and clinical activities including the use of pharmacological and psychological methods in the treatment of fear and treatment anxieties in children. The Department is also responsible for running a three-year specialist programme for dental hygienist training in pedodontics.
