Research profile

My research experience is highly interdisciplinary, but relies strongly on my solid academic background in biomaterials science and materials chemistry. After completing my MSc in Materials Engineering at Tampere University of Technology in Finland, I focused on ceramic bone scaffolds and implant surface modification during my PhD at the Department of Biomaterial at the University of Oslo. After brief postdoc researcher positions abroad working with bone cements at the RMS Foundation in Switzerland and 3D cell cultures in microgravity at Texas Southern University, USA, I returned to University of Oslo, where I now work as Associate Professor at the Department of Biomaterials, Faculty of Dentistry.

My main research interests centre on designing and engineering materials and surfaces for targeted cell-material interactions and biofilm prevention as well as hard tissue regeneration in applications where natural tissue regeneration may be hampered by underlying chronic inflammatory diseases. Through a collaborative and cross-disciplinary research focus, I have accumulated a broad scientific understanding of interactions between both biological molecules and organisms and material surfaces.

I also have a strong professional interest and scientific curiosity for anything to do with dental biomaterials – what they are made of and how they interact with the surrounding tissues. If you have any questions regarding dental biomaterials or are just curious about the chemical or physical properties of the materials you are using, I am always up for a scientific challenge!
