Prof. Candan Tamerler, University of Kansas
"Bioactive and Biomimetic Biomaterials Guided by Machine Learning Design of Peptides"
Biography: Dr. Tamerler is a C.E. and
M. J. Spahr Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kansas (KU). She is currently serving as the associate vice-chancellor for research at KU.
Dr. Tamerler`s research is at the intersection of engineering, biology, and nanotechnology. Her research group brings a cell-free synthetic biology-based approach to bio-enabled and bio-based materials design and processes. Her most notable contributions include the engineering of cell-free material biofunctionalisation, as well as the design, synthesis, and biofabrication of biomolecular recognition-based self-assembled hybrid molecular systems for medicine and biotechnology.

Prof. Malcolm Snead, Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of the University of Southern California
"Machine learning identification, design and optimization of antimicrobial peptides that selectively target periodontal pathogens"
Biography: Prof. Malcolm L. Snead is
Professor at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry, University of Southern California (USC), and a leading authority in enamel biomimetics, dental tissue regeneration, and peptide-enabled biomaterials. Prof. Snead's research explores the molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern tooth development and enamel formation and translates this knowledge into innovative biomaterial strategies for dental and orthopaedic applications. He has pioneered the design of peptide-enabled biomaterials that promote bone–implant integration and mitigate peri-implantitis, as well as supramolecular nanofiber systems for growth factor–free spine fusion. Prof. Snead also holds an Honorary Doctorate from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Oslo
