The Faculty is applying to host the ADEE 2018

The faculty of Dentistry, University of Oslo has sent a formal request to arrange ADEEs (Association for Dental Education in Europe) annual congress in 2018.

This is one of the main venues in Europe where knowledge and experiences related to dental education in different countries can be shared.

Proposed theme

The proposed theme for the ADEE Annual Meeting 2018 is “Dental Education in a Changing Society.”

Norway and Oslo in particular, is indeed a society in change. From being a largely homogenous city barely 50 years ago, Oslo is today truly multicultural with inhabitants from all over the world. “Changing society” may also refer to demographics. Alongside ethnic and demographic changes, people’s wealth and health have dramatically improved. Also, the continuous technological progress has a strong impact on the dissemination of knowledge and learning processes.

These changes lead us to ask the questions: How do we meet these changes?

How do we deal with the challenges? How do we educate today’s teachers and students to handle the challenges of tomorrow?

Proposed venue

In 2013, the Faculty of Dentistry opened the doors to its state-of-the-art preclinical dental simulation centre (PDSC, “Ferdighetssenteret”) at Gaustad, also home to the Faculty’s Institute of Oral Biology (IOB). Ferdighetssenteret is one of Europe’s most modern centres for preclinical training, stretching over 1000m2.

Gaustad provides open, light facilities equipped with cutting edge technology for the display and presentation of audio-visual materials, including computer projection, microphones and video conferences. The facilities include three large lecturing theatres with good capacity. The first and second floors at Ferdighetssenteret provide excellent, spacious and light facilities for registration, poster display and exhibition.

The faculty hope that the ADEE 2018 is held in these great venues.
