Professor Kafle was welcomed by Professor Dipak Sapkota and Associate Professor Tine M. Søland at the Institute of Oral Biology (IOB). During his stay, a plan for future activities, including the visit of specialist candidates from the School of Dentistry, Dhulikhel Hospital, Kathmandu University (KU) to IOB during fall 2025, was discussed.

Strengthening the ongoing collaboration

In addition, Kafle became familiar with the structure and regulation of the PhD program at the faculty, and he was introduced to molecular activities at Sapkota/Søland’s lab. This experience is expected to be invaluable to the School of Dentistry, KU, for the establishment of a PhD program in the future. It was a great opportunity for IOB staff to listen to Kafle’s inspiring talk on community dentistry activities at the Dhulikhel Hospital.

Associate Professor Carl Hjortsjö, Head of Department at the Institute of Clinical Dentistry (IKO), was kind enough to organize a guided tour of IKO, during which Kafle visited different clinical departments, the phantom-head laboratory, and the state-of-the-art dental simulators. Kafle also visited the Oral Research Laboratory at IKO.

The current visit will be invaluable not only to strengthen the ongoing collaboration between Sapkota and the School of Dentistry, KU, but also to initiate future academic and research collaborations between the Faculty of Dentistry, UiO and KU.
