Our associate professor Athina Samara is among the European scientists who contributed to this international collaboration. Based on robust population data and rigorous analysis, the study provides important evidence on an issue of major public concern.

Following its publication, the findings have attracted substantial global media attention, with coverage across continents from Australia to India, the United States and Europe. The study has been highlighted by leading international outlets, including Reuters and the Financial Times, and gained exceptional visibility after The Lancet shared it on X, where the main announcement has reached nearly 700.000 views in a week since it was published.

This study is a landmark contribution to evidence-based patient care and public health and helps address concerns among expectant parents worldwide.

Furthermore, it reflects the Faculty of Dentistrys strong commitment to impactful research in pain management, as well as Athina’s and colleagues work on developing advanced 3D models to study human development for tissue reconstruction. We are proud to see Athina and our faculty contributing to research with such broad international reach and real-world impact
