The Department is proud to announce we have been awarded 5 million NOK in funding from the Research Council of Norway through the INTPART (International Partnerships for Excellent Education,Research and Innovation (INTPART)) programme for the project “Life on Metal Surfaces” (LIMES). Out of 144 applications submitted nationwide, only 20 received funding, and four of the awarded projects were from the University of Oslo.
The Department was honoured to host Professor Shi and a delegation from the School of Life Science, Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT). The visit focused on biomaterials, tissue engineering, and advanced imaging, and opened new opportunities for research collaboration and student exchange between UiO and HIT.
We are thrilled that our team has been awarded a HALRIC pilot project focusing on state-of-the-art X-ray imaging methods for dental and orthopaedic applications. By combining contrast-enhanced micro-CT with advanced synchrotron techniques—such as phase-contrast imaging and X-ray fluorescence mapping—we aim to refine imaging protocols for hard-to-visualize cellular structures in bones, teeth and associated soft tissues.
After two years in Oslo, our PhD student Enrique Oreja was itching for new scientific challenges and life experiences. A two-month research stay at the Messersmith lab at UC Berkeley helped scratch that itch.
With the ever-darkening autumn days, it's good to look back to the sunnier summer months when the biomaterials lab was taken over by our French intern students.
Usame Sevgi from Dicle University in Turkey joined our group for three months, bringing along some Turkish delight and an healthy appetite for science.
After a long wait, the borders opened this summer and we were able to welcome Erasmus students at our lab again. This summer, the biomaterials lab was taken over by our French summer interns.
We are not only hosting visiting students but we also send some of our students out in to the world to experience new things. Like Florian is currently doing in Australia.
Summers at our lab are never quiet - thanks to our hardworking summer students. This summer, the biomaterials lab was kept busy by Dmytro and Nora.
Zhu Hao from Huazhong University of Science and Technology joined our group for one and a half years to teach us about Chinese traditions and cuisine (and do a bit of science at the side).
Torben Hildebrand from University of Hanover joined our group for five months to perform high-resolution 3D x-ray imaging of tooth structures.
Jean-Baptiste Sourbets from Polytech Nantes joined our group this summer to investigate the effect of cation doping on TiO2 scaffold properties.
Marc Amrit Schober from University of North Texas joined our group this summer to learn a bit more about biomaterials and cell biology.
Javier Sanz Esporrin from Complutense University of Madrid joined our group for three months to learn more about micro- and nanoCT imaging.
Francisco Romero Gavilán from Universitat Jaume I in Spain joined our group for three months to learn more about protein adsorption on biomaterials.
