This collaborative effort between the University of Aveiro and the University of Oslo was published in Advanced Materials, one of the world’s leading materials science journals: “Remote-Controlled Magnetic Stimulation of Cell-Based Bioengineered Tissues for In Situ Bone Regeneration.”
In this pioneering work, Lucia and coworkers invented an interesting strategy with magnetic nanoparticles and time-controlled cyclic magnetic fields for remotely patterning the assembly and osteogenesis of cells in engineered tissue constructs. Notably, their strategy evoked bone regeneration in vivo without the use of biochemical supplements, providing an avenue for minimally invasive, precise approaches in regenerative medicine.
Most of the imaging and validation of the constructs was carried out here at our lab, underscoring how international collaborations and hands-on training in the lab are an essential experience for aspiring scientists. Lúcia’s story is demonstrative of how short-term research visits can have a long-term, scientific impact — and of how our lab’s skills and resources can contribute to cutting-edge advances in biomaterials and tissue engineering!
We congratulate Lúcia on her excellent result!
