Department well-represented at ScSB2015

Several of our students and postdocs attended the 8th Annual Meeting of the Scandinavian Society for Biomaterials in Latvia last week.

Latest research results presented in Sigulda

Several of our PhD students had a chance to show off their latest research results and discuss with some of the world leading biomaterials researchers at the 8th Annual Meeting of the Scandinavian Society of Biomaterials in Sigulda last week. Hanna Tiainen gave a talk on polyproline peptides and their characterisation, while PhD students Sebastian Geissler, Simon Longela, David Wiedmer, and Manuel Schweikle had poster presentations on surface modification of titanium and nickel-titanium implants, free radical formation on titanium dioxide particles, and on drug encapsulation in polymeric nanoparticles.

Best poster prize to Sandra Recklies

Sandra, one of our master students, received the best student poster presentation award for her poster on antibacterial sol-gel coatings on TiO2 scaffolds. Sandra came to our lab as Erasmus exchange student from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and is currently doing a student research project on this topic at our department together with David Wiedmer and Hanna Tiainen. Department of Biomaterials congratulates Sandra for her achievement and would like to thank ScSB for awarding Sandra the student travel grant that made it possible for her to attend the meeting in Sigulda.
