Archives
In recent years research has particularly benefited from long-term systematic aggregation of data and establishment of archives intended for scientific purposes. The Department’s research archives consist of longitudinal data derived from humans, and include the following two main categories:
1) Normal growth and development
Oslo University Growth Archives
These longitudinal materials consist of records (dental study casts and radiographs) obtained at defined intervals of orthodontically untreated
- Children, 6-21 years
- Adults, 24-54 years
2) Treatment effect: long-term follow-up
Oslo University Orthognathic Archives
This material consists of records (radiographs, photographs and interview data) of about 1000 patients (after 1990) having undergone combined orthodontic treatment and orthognathic (facial) surgery, as well as records of patients operated since the early seventies. The records are obtained at seven stages according to a strict protocol.
Oslo University Transplantation Archives
Pioneer work starting in Oslo in the 1960s established a method for transplantation of teeth that today is generally recommended. The application of this method to special situations and long-term outcome is now the subject of follow-up studies. Materials collected are:
- 30 year follow-up
- Special indications (missing front teeth, CLP patients)
- Postoperative root growth
Other Archives
- Retention
- Idiopathic Rheumatoid Arthritis (IRA)
- Treatment of traumatized teeth
